Talaromyces species (Anamorph: Penicillium species)

A rapidly-growing fungus that produces either a yellow colony or a colony with a pale brown center within seven days, when incubated at 25oC (77oF). Ascomata are produced in either a pinkish, white, creamish, yellow, yellow-orange, or reddish brown layer. It has worldwide distribution and is very common. It can be isolated from air, soil, mangrove swamps, sea water, leaf litter, municipal waste, garden compost, grain and vegetable seeds, pecans, and dung. There have not been any reports of human infections.
