Chain of Custody

It is crucial to able to follow samples from their point of collection through to data reporting to ensure confidence in the analytical results. A Chain of Custody Form is the device utilized to trace the lineage of the sample from collection to reporting and ultimately sample disposal/archive.

The person collecting the sample begins the Chain of Custody. As samples are passed from individual to individual the transfers are notated. This procedure is followed until the samples are delivered to ED Lab where the Chain of Custody form is signed to mark the date and time of sample receipt. The original Chain of Custody form is then returned to the customer with the analytical report and a copy is retained with the project file at ED Lab.
